Katherine Carter- artist statement

I tend to be attracted to materials that possess sensuous qualities. Each object is a construction made of but not limited to metal, wood, beeswax, and enamel. Working with malleable media that is manipulated with heat allows me to play with gravity, time, and force to create a dynamic presence. I incorporate garments such as dresses and shirts  to evoke associations of identity within the work.

Inspiration is garnered from memory, space, and common place objects. Human attributes are implied throughout to elicit feelings of nostalgia. The visual outcomes are a mixture of adornments, low relief paintings, and sculpture. I want the work to render a slow and shared experience that grows on you with time and attention.
